As business after business are required to close temporally for safety reasons, many homeowners that are confined to their homes will have a heighten awareness of sanitizing the surfaces in their home. The need for repeated sanitation of horizontal and vertical surfaces should also extend to floor refinishing and countertop and shower beatification services. Since we are inside creatures, clean Travertine, Marble, Limestone and tile & grout floors, showers and Granite countertops is very important.

Will homeowners cleaning the countertops, floors and showers kill COVID-19 in ones homes? Stone Care of Arizona, the Arizona cleaning & sealing expert will love to unpack this to get a better understanding on the COVID-19 life cycle on vertical and horizontal surfaces.

COVID-19 is a class of viruses that are common in people, all species of animals and can spread through a living hoist. The Coronavirus can remain contagious up to 3 to 7 days on surfaces like countertops and doorknobs. Someone who coughs in a room can disperse airborne droplets that settles on wood, tile and natural stone floors.

Keep in mind, COVID-19 is not the only virus that can invade a home’s environment. The main transport for these stealthy contaminates is connected to the behavior of not taking ones shoes off at the threshold. When anyone walks pass their home's threshold, they inadvertently transport viruses and bacteria into their home.

Below is an investigative eye-opening report below: What is lurking on your shoes

The article provides a powerful need to keep the horizontal surfaces clean. It is equally important to keep your Travertine, Marble, Tile and Grout floors clean as well.

Stone Care of Arizona, the Arizona cleaning expert would like to share more tips on how to mop your floors after they have been professionally cleaned and sealed.

HOW TO KILL COVID-19 WHILE MOPPING

Most mopping techniques create more issues than effectively removing the issue of unwanted soil. Stone Care of Arizona, the Arizona stone care experts would like to recommend how to properly clean, disinfect floors and kill COVID-19 and other viruses that may be lurking on your floors. Since mopping your floors correctly is most important function a homeowner can do. There are conflicting cleaning methodologies that confuse homeowners.

Please note: The mopping advice shared can apply to tile & grout, all types of natural stone and wood floors.

Stone Care of Arizona, Arizona stone care expert would like to share 8 abbreviated steps and add one additional step for disinfecting your floors:
  1. CLEAN FLOORS: Per the above link provides everything needed for well-maintained floors. We recommend that you use a Neutral Floor Cleaner as your baseline mopping solution. (Traditional Mop Bucket or Microfiber mop).
  2. SOILED FLOORS: When your floor are very soiled it is better to use an Alkaline Floor cleaner. Here is when it gets tricky when mopping with an Alkaline floor cleaner. Alkaline mopping solutions can create a sticky residue that can make your floors looked unsightly. It is very noticeable in the grout channels.
    1. How do you avoid overuse? Never mix a higher dilution beyond the manufacture’s recommendation and avoid over wetting any floor area to lessen a residue from forming. Mop in small sections at a time.
    2. Once a floor has been mopped and has had time to dry, follow-up with an application of disinfectant.
    3. Never mop your floors with bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite) or bleached based products on wood or floors. Doing so will create a powerful residue and weaken the grout.
DISINFECTING FLOORS TO KILL COVID-19
The Travertine floors should be disinfected after cleaning and the floors have  completely dry.  This will prevent a chemical reasons leading to a sticky residue forming on your floors.
  1. There are two type of disinfectants
    1. Disinfectants formulated with Quaternary ammonium.
    2. Disinfectant extracted from plants
    3. Never apply a disinfectant on the floor while the alkaline mopping solution is drying.
There are lots of disinfectants on the market to choose from for sanitizing floors. Make sure your disinfectant can kill Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Influenza A, and will decimate viruses and COVID-19.

Stone Care of Arizona, the COVID-19 cleaning and disinfectant expert uses Benefect Botanical Decon 30, why? Because it deactivates or destroys viruses that work on all inanimate surfaces and porous and non-porous surfaces.
